Wheat & Dairy Allergy

Wheat Intolerence

A sensitivity or allergy to wheat can produce a variety of symptoms in the body such as sneezing, itching, rashes, watery eyes, runny nose, coughing, hay fever, headaches, nausea, digestive problems, swollen limbs or general aches and pains. When someone is allergic to a certain food, their immune system reacts as if the food were an invader and produces antibodies.

Common chronic illnesses and conditions such as asthma, eczema, migraines, irritable bowel syndrome and arthritis are often associated with wheat allergies. Unlike classic allergies, if you are allergic to wheat you will usually be allergic to more than one food. On average, sufferers react to four or five different foods.

Food allergies are often difficult to identify because our reactions can be delayed from anything from two hours to many days after taking the offending foods.

Milk Intolerence

Lactose intolerance means the body cannot easily digest lactose, a type of natural sugar found in milk and dairy products. When lactose moves through the large intestine (colon) without being properly digested, it can cause uncomfortable symptoms such as gas, belly pain, and bloating. Some people who have lactose intolerance cannot digest any milk products. Others can eat or drink small amounts of milk products or certain types of milk products without problems.

Lactose intolerance most commonly runs in families, and symptoms usually develop during the teen or adult years. In rare cases, newborns are lactose-intolerant.

If you have lactose intolerance, your symptoms may include: • Bloating • Pain or cramps • Gurgling or rumbling sounds in your belly • Gas • Loose stools or diarrhea

Acidity

The stomach gastric glands secrete acid needed during digestion. Primarily, the acid breaks down food in the digestion process. An excess production of this acid leads to an acidic condition in the human body. The symptoms related to stomach acidity include heartburn, ulcer formation and dyspepsia.

Dyspepsia and heartburn are often the main symptoms of acidity. Heartburn is characterised by a deeply placed, burning pain in the chest behind the sternum (breast-bone). It occurs after meals and is brought on by excess intra-abdominal pressure like lifting weights or straining. It can also occur at night on lying down and is relieved when the individual sits up. The pain is very closely related to posture. Regurgitation of the gastric contents may also occur. The symptoms of ulcers are mainly pain that can be either localised or diffused. Sometimes it radiates to the back or to the chest.

The most common symptom is dyspepsia, a burning or aching pain in the upper abdomen sometimes described as a "stabbing feeling penetrating through the width of the gut". Rarely, there is no pain at all, but only a feeling of indigestion or nausea. Eating a meal usually relieves the pain in duodenal ulcer, but in a gastric ulcer there may be no change, or the pain may become worse. Peptic ulcer disease can sometimes occur without symptoms. Symptoms may also arise when there is no ulcer present, which is known as non-ulcer dyspepsia.

Constipation / Loose Motion

Being constipated means your bowel movements are difficult or happen less often than normal. Almost everyone has it at some point in life, and it's usually not serious. Still, you'll feel much better when your system is back on track.

The normal length of time between bowel movements varies widely from person to person. Some people have bowel movements three times a day. Others have them only once or twice a week.

Going longer than three or more days without one is usually too long. After three days, the stool or feces become harder and tougher to pass.

Symptoms : • Few bowel movements • Trouble having a bowel movement (straining) • Hard or small stools • A sense that everything didn't come out • Swollen abdomen or abdominal pain • Vomiting.

Celiac

Celiac disease is one of the most common autoimmune conditions affecting people. Even though celiac disease is very common, more than 80% of Celiac disease patients remain undiagnosed. Celiac disease is a chronic, autoimmune digestive disorder that results in inflammation of the small intestine of genetically-susceptible individuals when they ingest gluten. In patients with celiac disease, ingestion of gluten results in an abnormal immune response that results in inflammation within the small intestine. Gluten is the protein fragments of wheat, rye and barley that triggers the disease. Gluten is the compound that gives elasticity to dough and makes bread chewy.

Symptoms of celiac disease can include abdominal bloating, diarrhea and even constipation. Celiac disease can also cause fatigue, iron deficiency anemia, osteoporosis, weight loss and malnutrition. Vitamin deficiencies are often noted in people with coeliac disease owing to the reduced ability of the small intestine to properly absorb nutrients from food.
